Mac Pro Nehelem 2009 with HD 5770 4k resolution possible? 3480 x 2160

I'm thinking about replacing my cinema 30 with a Seiki 39" 4k tv

Can my Mac with HD 5770 out put that resolution?

I'm guessing that 2560x1600 would look blurry on that tv.

Also, do you think is a bad move? Would colors look bad?

I use my Mac for photography, video and Internet. No games.

Thanks

OK, this is the answer"

Mac Pro Early 2009 Quad 2.66 with ATI HD 5770 can run Seiki 39" 4K tv ($699) at its native resolution of 3840x2160 @ 30Hz

You dont even need SwitchresX to do it.

What you'll need is a Mini Display port to HDMI "Active" adapter which will take DP signal convert it to HDMI 1.4

BUT

I have some bugs when I use this adapter, put computer to sleep before you turn of monitor, and turn on monitor before you wake up computer.

I don't fully understand your setup. On the HD 5770 you're using which port? On the Seiki TV which port? I've got a flashed PC-to-Mac firmware HD 5770 with DisplayPort, HDMI, and two DVI ports. I believe you're saying I would need to use an "active" DisplayPort to HDMI adapter from the HD 5770, and then use an HDMI cable to the 4K TV, is this correct? I'm on a 2006 MacPro flashed to 2007 firmware running 10.9.1 via SFOTT. I don't know anything about why HDMI-to-HDMI doesn't work, but I assume it doesn't. So I believe I'd need an "active" adapter from the HD 5770 DisplayPort-to-HDMI and then a normal HDMI cable running to the 4K TV, correct?

Yes, the mini display port on the hd5770 needs an active mini display port to hdmi adapter.

When I was using a regular non active mini display port to hdmi cable the monitor computer handshake had tons of problems. For example, it would work the first time, but if the computer went to sleep, the connection would be lost and resetting the computer did not fix the problem either.

I had to reconnect my old 30" Cinema Display as a second monitor and re set the hd5770 to 1080p and then back to 4k.

With the active cable it works every time, it does take a little long for handshake to occur, like 6 seconds, but it works.

And the Seiki is now under 500 dollars.

The quality is great! But not so good for gaming... You would have to set it to 1080p so that you could get at least 60hz

Hope this helps.

I also have a MacPro and a Seiki 4K (39" version) and it works great and is beautiful!

I have had a number of occassions where the screen wouldn't reconnect after my MacPro went to sleep.

I am hoping Seiki will have a firmware fix for this soon!

I've actually being using 4K displays at my work for about 4 years already and have been stunned at how quickly prices have dropped from the $30000.00 we paid for Toshiba 4K displays, which we had to drive with 2 dual link DVI inputs and they were just monitors with no TV tuners, ...

I am contemplating getting a Seiki 55" for use as my TV and display, but I _REALLY_ would prefer to have passive 3D as well. Ie, I would love to get the LG 55" or 60" passive/polarized 3D display, but that is a LOT more money than I have.

Seiki, please make passive (circular polarized) 3D versions of your displays!! :-)

Better yet, LG, Toshiba, Sony, Samsung et al, please drop your prices on your 4K 3D displays!!!

Anyone still using a Mac Pro with HD5770, a 4K monitor, and Yosemite?

I'd like to get this working on a 2010 Mac Pro with a Samsung 4K LCD but I'd look to know if it still works with Yosemite.

Is the Accell B086B-007B or B086B-008B a suitable ACTIVE MDP-HDMI converter? I tried a Belkin converter which didn't work, but I think it is probably a passive converter.
