Q: AT&T U-Verse plus Airport Extreme works, BUT....
I used to have an ancient ADSL connection from AT&T where I had the (routerless) modem connected to an old MacSense router for a hardwired LAN. I later expanded to wireless and plugged an Airpot Extreme into the MacSense router in order to create a wireless LAN. This worked fine.
Today, I upgraded my internet service to U-Verse and so I got a new U-verse 2Wire modem/router. Initially, I was hoping to just turn off the wireless router function on the 2Wire and connect it to the MacSense/Airport Extreme via an erhernet cable. Alas, this did not work (no wireless signal) - perhaps because the MacSense is probably >10 years old and I suppose there could be compatibility issues.
Thus, I temporarily set up a new wirless LAN by just using the 2Wire router function. This worked fine, except to my amazement, the wirleless range of the 2Wire is quite limited in my house. In some places the signal is so weak that some of my devices struggle connecting. Since my Airport Extreme has very good range, I brought it back into play. I simply used an ethernet cable and connected the 2Wire directly to the Airport extreme. This seems to work great (so far), but I'm very concerned that I now have essentially 2 wireless routers/networks running in parallel. Is that going to lead to problems at some point? If so, what do I do to fix it? Try to turn off wireless for the 2Wire? Or am I already using the airport extreme in a non-router mode and everything will be OK? My knowledge in these matters is quite marginal, so I will need fairly basic instructions.
Thanks for any input!
