iDVD burn failure

I am unable to burn a DVD using iDVD,

This disc in question is a slide show with added audio from iMovie. It's not long - about 12 minutes.

I've tried Memorex and Verbatim discs.

With Verbatim discs the burn window starts by saying "Time remaining 4 mins". The progress bar gets as far as, "Writing lead-out", with "Time remaining about 1 minute", when the disc ejects, not having been burnt.

With Memorex discs the burn sequence reaches completion but the resulting disc will not open in my dvd player. In my mac the disc opens as far as the title page but will not play or do anything else.

What can I do to remedy the situation?

I have OS10.7.5 and iDVD 7.1.2

All help and advice will be gratefully received and acknowleged, as usual.

Thanks in anticipation

Rob

First did you use iMovie's Share to iDVD option? If so try again with its Share to Media Browser option and add the movie from the media browser in iDVD to a new project.

Next follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Hi Old Toad,

Thanks for your help.

However, I've encountered two problems:-

First, in iMovie I was unable to save the project to the Media Browser as a, "Large", film, only as a, "Medium". Not the end of the world, I guess.

Second, having saved as disk image, the file which results is an, "img", file and will not open in DVD Player or, for that matter, in Toast.

Where am I going wrong?

Hi Old Toad,

Thanks for your perserverance.

Having added the Audio and Video TS folders to Toast, I get an error message from Toast, probably like kerrinordy.

So I imagine I need to ask you two questions:-

1 How do I burn a playable DVD using Disk Utility (having saved a disk image as previously described?

and/or

2 Is it worth reinstalling iDVD to try to remedy the burn fault that way and, if so, how do I reinstall iDVD?

Once again - thanks for your help.

Regards

Rob

Bob:

I forgot to ask: are you able to create a disk image from your iDVD project? Have you tried creating a new iDVD project, adding the movie again and trying to save as a disk image? To do so you'd have to reinstall iDVD and it's themes. If you expect to create any video DVDs in the future with nice menus I'd reinstall iDVD and use it.

kerrinordy:

What version of Toast are you using? I'm using Toast Titanium 11.1. The Video_TS and Audio_TS folders I got from an iDVD created Disk Image so I know they are good.

Where are your folders from? What did you use to create them?
