How do I tie an alert sound to the default alert?

My default alert for calendar entries is "Default (15 minutes before". In the system preferences - sound panel I have the Hero sound selected. When it is time for a calendar alert, the pop appears but it uses the Basso sound, not the Hero sound in my sound preferences. How do I make the default calendar alert use my sound preference?
