Should I get 4x4 gigs of ram or 2x8?
I was wondering if it is better to max out the slots (i have 4) or to keep it on two? I use my computer for video editing and motion graphics.

Hi, for what you do 16 GB may be enough, but I'd go more.
If you only have 2 slots filled now, you can add 2*8 GB to add to the RAM you have now, so if you have 4 now, that'd give you 20 GB.
Apple says your machine only supports 16 GB; whereas, MacTracker says max RAM is 32 GB. If you're heavily iinto video editing, go for 4 x 8 GB modules.
I can only afford 16 gigs at the moment, but does it make a difference whether all the slots are filled or just utilizing two of them to get the 16 gigs?
Shouldn't. But, since you already have two slots filled, put the 2s8 GB ones into the other slots, giving you 20 GB, assuming that you currently have 2x2 GB ones. If they're 2X4 GB, that'll get you to 24 GB.
I thought you werent supposed to mix sizes like that, or has that changed?
You thought wrongly.
Things have changed. 🙂
