FaceTime and iMessage not working

I recently purchased an iPad mini. However FaceTime and iMessage don't always work, sometimes a message will just show as 95% sent and stay there alternatively FaceTime says connection lost all the time,

The strange thing is how periodic this is, it is very temperamental, sometimes having outages of a couple of hours, while I am still able to connect to the wifi, and use all other Internet features

iPad, iOS 6.1.3

Hello bennioat,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like the issue with iMessages not sending, and Facetime not working is intermittent.

Intermittent issues are sometimes the most frustrating, so lets see what we can do.

I suggest these 2 parts of the article named iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime and iMessage activation found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4268

To sign out of your Apple ID

  1. Go to Settings > FaceTime, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out.
  2. Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out.

And

Recommended Wi-Fi router and access-point settings.

Next I would reset the network settings on your iPad and test again:

Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

  • Note: This will reset all network settings including: previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords, recently used Bluetooth accessories, VPN and APN settings.

Take care,
