Q: iphone 5 - not getting alert tone when using bluetooth

I am not getting any alert tone (voicemail, text, etc) when my iphone 5 is connected to my car's bluetooth. I do get the notification and the phone does vibrate, but there is no sound. Same is true for my wife who drives a different brand car. The strange thing is that if I am already on a phone call through the car's bluetooth and get a text while on the call, the alert tone does sound through the car's speakers. If anything, the tone should be silenced if a person is already on the phone as it causes a distraction during the conversation. But I would like to find out if there is any way to activate the alert sounds when the phone is connected through the car's bluetooth.

    Hey all

I have an iphone 4/ios 6 that has decided not to play alerts or audio to the speakers.... Phone ringer works fine.

Will however play all those to bluetooth or headset.

I forgot to disconnect from a rental car and I think that was the cause.

I can't find an option like the one mentioned above.

When I have music player on phone speakers thee is no vol control bar as well.  Shows up for BT and HS

I've done power downs etc.   No luck.

    Does anyone have any ideas.

    Many thanks

SO here I am answering my own question as I think I just fixed it????

As the audio worked through BT I decided to dock it to my laptop and when I did the audio played out the iphone speakers.

    Odd I thought.....

Unpluging the dock con left the phone mute again.

Plugged the dock back in and...................you guessed it music from the phone speaks.

Unplugging this time left me with working speaks and vol controls where there were none before.

Seems to be back to normal?????????????

Am wondering if i had a bit of conductive debris in the dock that was causing this.

    Anyway    Thanks for listening everyone...

Perhaps this might help someone else.

    Hugh :-)

Thank you. This worked however its only a workaround.

I have a similar issue to what others are experiencing.

    I have a 5S and 2 different headsets- voyager pro + and a PLT M50.

The cheap $30 headset (M50) plays all alert tones correctly.

The expensive Voyager pro + does NOT. I cant figure it out for the life of me. I would assume that the more expensive model would be able to do the same things as the cheaper model.

Does anyone else have this issue or a solution for it?
