Active window blinks every 10-12 seconds

Following a crash, now any active window blinks every 10-12 seconds, and, should I be using in that moment a pop up menu of the application that manages that active window, when the flash happens, it closes the pop up menu, as if I had clicked outside of that menu.

Also, since the crash, I can not start Outlook 2011 ( the Outlook splash screen shows up for 1 second, and then nothing happens... )

Looking at the Activity Monitor, I also notice that, with the same frequency, after each flash "distnotes" goes from 2-3 suprocesses to 6-7 subprocess

Any clue?

Thanks

I have exactly te same thing....annoying "blink" (like a flash) around the borders of the active window (whatever program is active) and it makes any dropdown Menu I'm in disappear (close). It interupts typing when it blinks. Outlook 2011 no longer opens, only the splash screen for a moment then nothing. Zapped PRAM, hooked up to external monitor and it does the same thing on the monitors in whatever window is active. Went to energy saver and turned OFF the graphics card switching but that didn't help. I did login to a "Guest" account on my MacBook Pro and it doesn NOT have the flashing/blinking problem, suggesting it's some sort of software (?) glitch?

I see threads about this sort of thing back from 2009, all the way up to now. And none of them seem to have an answer or else they suggest it is a very rare and odd problem. And yet it is common enough to have many threads. Could it be a sign of malware? Anybody recognize this problem as something known?

Thank you in advance
