I'm trying to import raw video footage on my desk top to iMovie with no success. I have Wondershare Video Converter and have tried a number of options with no success. Any thoughts?

I don't have a Mac but on my iPad my only choice for imports is the "Photos" where my default videos from my camera go. I do have the option to record live video into iMovie. The Mac version of iMovie is supposed to have more options but are you able to get your videos into the " Photos" or wherever the default location for video importation is?
What format is the raw video in? Is it MT2 or something else?
