Downloading pictures from a Nikon digital camera to an iPad

Can I directly download pictures from my Nikon camera directly to my iPad? If so how?

Yes, that's right. Buy a Camera Connection Kit with the lightning connector. I have one which has the USB port to dock with the camera's cable. Easily transferred the photos from camera to iPad.
