I'm writing my thesis and my school uses a MS Word template... has anyone had experience with using Word templates in Pages? Will it be a nightmare or relatively easy -I don't want to spend hours and hours reformatting. Thanks for your feedback.

I should add that the alternative is to spend $140 and buy the student version of Office for Mac that has Word.
My experience with Word documents in general in Pages is that sometimes there will be a missing font, or the formatting will be slightly off so that, say, a document that was exactly a page long becomes two pages long, with one line of text on the second page.
If your school forces you to use a Word template for your thesis, then I would recommend you use Word (cringe). Perhaps if you have a friend who already has Pages, you should try opening the Word template there and see how Pages handles it.
Pages should open the Word template although you might have to change the extension from .dot to .doc. But, as ffiti said, formatting is often off. But there are other options besides Office for Mac. TextEdit that comes with your Mac can open Word files & there are the Office clones such as LibreOffice or NeoOffice that are free.
