Q: re-installing LE 7.1 on a machine with Logic 9

Sep 5, 2013 4:00 PMby Guitartist,I'd love to try to help, but I've read your post 4 or 5 times and I can't really understand exactly what you're asking. As near as I can tell you seem to have LE 7.1, Logic Pro 8, and Logic Pro 9 on either a laptop or a desktop?
Perhaps if you took one problem at a time and stated very clearly what you are attempting to do someone could offer helpful suggestions.

I had LE 7 on an old machine and since has died and i cant find original discs.
I transferred my hard disk to a new machine.
SInce then I bought L8 and then L9
I have some old files which i would like to open in LE 7 which used 3rd party plug ins Intakt and Battery 2 which now do not work in L9.
I bought an old copy of LE 7 to install on my desk top. it told me that I would replace the logic that is already installed.
I then installed LE7 onto a different hard drive running Snow Leopard and it immediatley crashes and will not open.
I guess I wanted to insall LE 7 on my master machine as I have the old copies of Intakt and Battery 2 on
In regards to the serial number I have tried to install L9 onto my laptop but when I insert the disc it asks for serial xs key
I do not have the seial for my copy of logic 8 anymore.

Sep 7, 2013 7:15 AMby Guitartist,Okay, I think I understand now. What I don't understand is why the LE7 installer wants to replace the existing Logic installation. In your Applcations folder I assume you have either "Logic" or "Logic Pro?" (I have "Logic Express.")
I see no reason why Logic Express would want to install over Logic (Pro), but you could always try tricking the LE7 installer by temporarily renaming your Logic Pro folder to anything that would make it unidentifiable to the installer; even something like "Logic Pro 9.1" should work. Another option would be to temporarily drag your Logic folder out of Applications and return it after you install LE7. You could compress it to a .zip file if you like.

For the serial XS key you may need to contact Apple support. I believe it's required only because you're trying to reinstall an upgrade. If LP9 were the full program you wouldn't need it.

Where do i locate my logic folder as cannot find it it not in the applications folder?
that makes sense regarding my logic laptop problem 9 must have been the upgrade and I need to install 8 probably wont work on ML though?

Sep 7, 2013 2:39 PMby Guitartist,All I can suggest is using Spotlight to try finding your Logic folder. If you pulled it out of your Applications folder perhaps you grouped it with other music applications in a "Music" folder?
I'm afraid you're between a rock and a hard place re: Logic 8 and Mountain Lion. I don't think it will work.

Sep 8, 2013 6:00 AMby Guitartist,Open Spotlight (top right menu bar) and type "logic." Assuming that you have allowed Spotlight to index all your drives, it will display your logic folders, wherever they are. It's possible that you decided at some point to put Logic into a group folder with your other music applications, so you might also try typing "music" or "music apps." You don't need to choose a folder . . . Spotlight will search them all.
Re: your screenshot . . . yes, if you try to install LE7 it will overwrite L9 for some reason, unless you find the L9 folder and rename it as I've suggested.
