Q: ***- I am in the process of download Boardwalk Empire Season 1; having just purchesed and it shows that episode one has downloaded however when I try to play it it only gives a 30 second sample-WHY?

    Where/how are you trying to watch it ? If you've downloaded it on a computer's iTunes then you should be able to watch them from the TV Shows part of your iTunes library, not within the store. If doing it on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch then the programmes should have downloaded into the Videos app on the device.
