Apple WatchPressing C at statup up is used for booting from an install disc.
Safe Mode requires holding down the Shift key, not the C key.
Try starting up your Mac while holding down the Option key. If the startup disk is available, that should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk then click Restart.
If that doesn't work, restore v10.6 Snow Leopard > Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard: How to Erase and Install
