iTunes has stopped working. Why?

iTunes opens but can not access the store. I get the message "iTunes has stopped working". Using iTunes 11.0.5.5 and Windows 7 64-bit. This issue just cropped up, previously everything was working fine. Any ideas?

Windows 7, Windows 7 64-bit

I don't know what the problem is exactly, but I've been having this problem also. It seems to be a problem with iTunes not wanting to connect to the iTunes Store. I followed instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717 and the fix that did it for me was deleting

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes

After this my iTunes started up fine. It stopped being fine however when I tried to access the iTunes Store. So the quick fix is to delete the iTunes folder and don't try to get onto the iTunes Store.

Had tried multiple things trying to solve this issue running itunes on Windows 8, but moving all the .dll files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes seems to have solved the issue.

I had originally overcome this issue by running the application as Administrator and with the compatibility setting set to Windows 7; but after a while the problem came back. After moving the .dll files, was able to run the app normally. I know people running itunes on Win8 without any issues, so it seems it is some sort of conflict with a particular configuration or installed software.

This post is extremely helpful for Windows 8 users.

Resolved!

After contacting Apple, I received a reply from their engineers:

Copy QTMovieWin.dll from: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
