Q: iTunes has stopped working. Why?

iTunes opens but can not access the store. I get the message "iTunes has stopped working". Using iTunes 11.0.5.5 and Windows 7 64-bit. This issue just cropped up, previously everything was working fine. Any ideas?

Windows 7, Windows 7 64-bit

Thank you.  Worked for me.  Would have been nice if the Itunes was installed into my computer when I bought it last week, instead of all of the other junk applications.

Finally, music is back in my life

For me just adding the path to the PATH variable didn't work.

I had to copy QTMovieWin.dll from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and then it worked again.

I have tried the fix that Thurdy, used but it won't work for my windows 7. I can open everything, but it won't let me play any of my music or add/remove music to my ipods. I keep getting a notification saying that the song I chose can not be located, and would I like to locate it. I have been through all of the possible places where it could be and still not getting anywhere  I am getting tired of this now.

This worked for me too. I was able to use my iTunes fine except for the store. I could update my podcasts, listen to my music, etc. but as soon as I clicked on the store it would crash.

I tried to talk to apple support and they told me I needed to buy a support contract. *** Apple? The only thing I couldn't do with iTunes was PAY YOU MONEY and you wanted me to pay for the privlege of getting the program to work properly so that I could BUY STUFF FROM YOU!

Thanks guys, copying the DLL to the right spot was all it took. Apple, if I can buy what I want from someone else, I will because other stores help you to give them money, not charge you for the opportunity to look at what they have to sell.

    I've tried this way:

    Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

I've Also tried reinstalling Itunes. But the problem still persists even after i've copied the dll file.

    I need help ASAP

I Had tried the copy the dll method and it worked for a while, but then an iTunes update happened and it stopped loading at all.

In the end the thing that got it working was to uninstall everything apple. Don't forget I cloud, bonjour, and QuickTime. Then reboot and reinstall them from the newest version available.

I used the 'copy dll' method a couple months ago when I could not open the iTunes store and it worked. The latest iTunes update screwed everything up again and this time I could not open iTunes at all...not even to access my music.  I took Rodmcpherson's suggestion above and uninstalled everything Apple I could find on my computer (icloud, quicktime, etc.), then rebooted.  I still got an error (error 7, windows error 127) when I tried to open iTunes even though it said the download was successful.  I then repeated the copy dll method and was surprised to be prompted to "replace" the dll file with the same name that was already in the itunes folder.  I said yes and voila, all is working again.

    I am using Windows 8.1.

If anyone from Apple monitors these message boards, I'd like to say this is getting really old and I am quite close to exploring alternative apps.  I am not a computer whiz and if it weren't for fellow users who graciously share their knowledge, I would still be struggling.
