data migration - OS X version of RoboCopy?

hi everyone,

a problem (and extremely frustrating) that I have run into on more then one occasion while transferring data is a corrupt file not being able to be copied and stopping the entire transfer.

Here's the scenario: I start moving over someone's data, leave to do something else, only to come back and find that the operation has stopped because a file could not be transferred. Then you have to go in and start digging through folders to move a few things at a time.

Anyway, I know that Windows XP has a utility called RoboCopy (robo meaning robust). It will transfer data and anything that it can't copy it will make of record of and continue on. Is there something similar to this in the OS X world? Maybe there is a Unix command or something if anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried copying the data using ditto? Here's an example:

ditto -rsrcFork -V /path to/folder to copy /new destination

With Mac OS X 10.4 and later, the "-rsrcFork" option is not required; using it won't hurt anything, though. The "-V" option means verbose: you'll see a printout of files being copied.

If you prefer a GUI method, consider Carbon Copy Cloner, which uses ditto to perform its copies.
