ASUS Blu Ray burner no longer recognized

I have read many threads already about this with no answers. Until today, Adobe Encore has recognized the burner that has been plugged into 2 USB ports. In fact my built in Super Drive wasn't even recognized by Encore. But I navigated my way through that problem.

A buddy of mine had the same problem but with a different brand after he updated his OS. He resolved the problem by "finding a patch" that he has long forgotten where. (I now curse his name)

If anyone has a suggestion, please share. A lot of people on these threads think Toast Titanium is the answer. Titanium has absolutely zero to do with your Mac recognizing you have a burner mounted to your Mac.

reset FW bus, same goes for USB reset...

Reset the Firewire bus

If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device. A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:

1. Shut the machine down.

2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.

3. leave it for 10 minutes.

4. Connect back up and reboot.

Jim, forgot to mention what causes this, it happens when some USB device draws too many mA, it kicks out to protect the Mac, (Bus powered drives are the worst idea ever in my opinion), so to protect your Mac, I'd get an AC powered USB Hub to plug those drives into...

Or an AC powere Optical drive...
