Why can't I find my purchased apps from an old Ipod Touch I use to own?

I used to own an Ipod touch until it became broken and then eventually lost. I just bought this, a MacBook Pro (4?) second hand, recovered my apple account but my old account has none of my purchases saved even though my billing record shows them. Is this a common occurence?
