Echo audio effect on video clips

I'm trying to add an echo effect on the audio that lasts longer that the video clip. For example, If a person says "moment in time" at the clip ends, how can I extend the last word like "time" to echo past the video clip? I understand how to add effects to audio but once the video clip in finished, so is the audio. I'd like to extend the echo past the video clip.

I hope I'm explaining this properly. Is this a Soundtrack Pro question?

Final Cut Pro 6, Mac OS X (10.5.5), Using a Canon 5D Mark II

Here is one way to do it:

Edit a couple of seconds of Slug after the end of the video/audio clip that you want to add echo to. You can trim this off later, after you get your effect set.

Next, select both the clip you want to add echo to and the Slug you added right after it so that both are highlighted (selected). Now type Option + C to Nest the two clips into a single unit.

Now you can apply your effect to the Nest you made and have space to have the audio echo. If you need to make adjustments to contents of the nest, just double click on it.

I tried this but for some reason after I nest the clip with the slug, the echo applied to the nest is not adjustable. I tried double clicking the nest to examine the settings applied but there isn't anything in the filters tab. I'm a little confused why I'm unable to see the settings I apply to a nest.

I think I got it to work. After I nested the 2 clips and added the echo effect, I right clicked the nest and chose "OPEN IN VIEWER". From there I was able to adjust the effect in the nest.

You can also open a nest in the viewer by option doubleclicking on the nest in the timeline.
