Error -50 external hard drive connected via USB to Time Capsule

I just bought an external hard drive for my Time Capsule (2 TB) and connected it via USB.

After connecting to my Time Capsule, I click on my volume (VERBATIM HD). Everything that I try to do in it, the following message appears:

The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50).

Can somebody help me please?

Thanks!

Is the drive recognised by the TC?

Is the drive formatted and partitioned correctly? ie GUID and HFS+ or FAT32 (FAT16 if it is tiny).

We find occasionally even if the drive is recognised by the Mac and you have all the above right.. it still has issues on the TC. This maybe due to the chipset used in the drive.. and / or drawing too much power.. the USB in the TC is very limited.. A powered hub can be required even though the disk itself is powered.
