Why is it making weird clicking sounds?

My computer started making these really annoying clicking noises. It sounds internal, and just starts up at random intervals. Something may be wrong inside, but I have no idea what. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

The Optical drive will make a much louder grinding noise when it operates if a disk is inside upon startup. Also when it is beginning to go out it will do So. If it is just a slight clicking sound then you can almost bet it is the Hard Drive. In that case i would recommend running a time machine backup of your information and taking it to have the hard drive replaced and OS reinstalled unless you are comfortable with doing this yourself. When you begin to hear a clicking it usually means the hard drive is beginning to experience a mechanical failure.
