Hello, I'm using apple Mail for email. Can anyone please tell me how to tag an email message with a reminder or alert to follow up on a specific future date? I get a lot of emails that require action by a date in the future. Unlike the flag feature in outlook, the flag in Mail doesn't appear to offer this.

Using Mountain Lion, you can drag an email message to the Reminders application on the dock to launch it.

It's a shame that this feature doesn't work in OSX 10.9 (Mavericks). Dragging a mail to Reminders simply launches Reminders and doesn't actually save the mail or set a reminder 😟
I agree. Microsoft Outlook seems to offer much better functionality.
The best solution I know is the mail plug-in Mailhub - it allows you to push a single button to make a reminder off an email. It does a lot more than just that.
I am seeing more and more features that used to allow drag and drop to work in OSX go away in Mavericks - I’m sure a result of the blending of OSX and iOS7 because there is no way to do drag and drop easily in iOS7. Not something I’m in favor of. It is taking away a lot of the usability of the apple structure which was always a big point in its favor against microsoft.

This is a feature I seriously need for OS X and iOS.
Does anyone know of any app that supports setting and viewing the date for emails marked with a follow-up flag?

How anyone who handles hundreds of requests through email gets by without something like this, I don't know.
This was driving me crazy and I couldn't let it go. I can't believe that Apple doesn't "allow" for drag-n-dropping a message onto the Reminders icon! BUT it does work - albeit not as elegantly as I would like - if you have the Reminders application already open/running. I was able to drag an Apple Mail.app message directly onto the Reminders.app window and it created a Reminder item, complete with a hyperlink "Show in Mail".

This solved it for me. Can't drag it on the icon on the dock. Have to drag it into the actual app window.
In Mavericks, (10.9), you can't drag it to the icon on the dock. You have to drag it into the actual app window.

Hi, I'm pretty much a neophyte. However, I dragged an e-mail message to a date in the calendar and there I set a reminder (alarm etc.). Hope that helps. But, yes, in this day and age - Apple should have this built-in. Regards, Terry
I tried it and it does work. That said, the specific mail message has to be open. You can't drag it out of preview.
