How can I get iMovie to recognize my Canon Vixia HFM500 Camcorder?

I'm using iMovie 11, and I cannot figure out how to get it to recognize my camcorder.

These are things I've already tried:

- camcorder is connected to AC power

- camcorder is in connection mode

- tried iMovie already open when camera connected

- tried camera connected before opening imovie

- ran software update on computer

- restarted computer

- turned camera on and off

Any other ideas? Thanks a lot!

When you connect your camera to your Mac does an image of it mount on your desktop? If it does are you able to access the image and find some video footage (it will be hidden in a file so you may need to do some digging around) which you should be able to play through QuickTime.

If you can find some video, and play it, that at least proves that everything appears to be functioning normally for your camera and connectivity to your mac.

If you can't mount on your desktop I would try a new connector cable, as the one you have may be faulty.

If this fails try repairing disk permissions and try connecting your camera again. Finally, you could try reinstalling iMovie.
