what does 'filter failure' mean when my epson will not print?

I recently responded to a Software Update for my Epson Stylus TX610FW Printer. It has crashed constantly since. It will print a Nozzle Check but whenever

I attempt to print a document in any Application the printer crashes.

I have replaced Mountain Lion 10.4.8, I have attempted to find Epson v.2.6 as the Forums suggest and can find it nowhere.

Is there any other way of reverting to my previour driver?

When I try to print I get the following message in the Crash Box: rastertoescpll quit unexpectedly

I get the following error in the Print Dialogue Box: stopped - 'Filter' failed - 1 page
