Sep 2, 2013 6:19 AM in response to Schmidleyby wjosten,Either get your phone officially unlocked BEFORE your trip, then use local sims, or put your phone in Airplane Mode, then go back into settings & turn WiFi back on.
Turning off cellular data is NOT a 100% sure fire way to preventy nasty surprises.

No. Airplane Mode turns off all iPhone radios, but you can go back into settings & turn both WiFi & Bluetooth back on.
How do I get my phone unlocked?
Contact your carrier to see if they offer official unlocking, some do, some don't.
If you want to receive/make calls, you need to either get a roaming plan from your carrier or get your phone officially unlocked.
