Q: Problem with I loud backup

iPhone 4S unable to autobackup to icloud when connected to wifi. When plugged in the backup now bar does not light up--- remaains grey. I am able to backup via computer hookup, but want to do without also. Icloud account set up/turned on. Any suggestions.
