Just place a favicon.ico file at root level of your webspace. This site enables you to make one (I've not tried it and there are probably others):
If you go into the code, in your <head> place the following:
<link rel="icon" href="[filepath to icon image]" type="image/[type]">
Depending on your host and server type, that allows you to use ANY JPG, PNG or GIF as your favicon as long as it's square. No size restrictions, just square.
The file path MUST be accurate It doesn't necessarily have to be in the root folder - it can be in your images folder) and you MUST upload the image. Then make sure that the "image/[type]" has the proper type entered ("image/jpg" for example)
You can't edit the 'head' in iWeb. But in any case there's no need - simply placing a favicon.ico file at root level of the webspace will work - it does for my pages and I've not added the code on some of my sites, e.g.

Ah, well one can in TextEdit, TextWrangler or BBEdit. I just don't like being limited to a 16X16 icon. And I'm far too advanced in web design to "not be able" to edit code in my software. WYSIWYG is nice for beginners, but I passed that stage almost ten years ago. Can't put the genie back in the bottle.
Yes, you can manually edit the html of an iWeb page, but you will have to do it again every single time you update it.
And as the favicons appear only in the Address Bar where they are 16 x 16 what is the advantage of creating a larger one? - and if there is a point to it can't you just add it at root level anyway?
If you have iWeb SEO Tool you can insert any code you want into the head of your pages.

My brother's business site - the favicon is an animated GIF (128x128). You CAN'T do that with a standard favicon file. Several repeat customers have told him that the animation makes the favorite stand out in the list. I have other clients that use part of their logo as the favicon. Tried it with a favicon file - looked like garbage. With an image icon it looks like a photo icon.
I'd not seen one of those before, so thanks for the link. However it works in the tab on FireFox:
but not in the Address Bar in Safari
which is a pity.
Of course this isn't an iWeb site: as discussed above, doing this in iWeb is messy as you have to access the html, amend it, upload it, and do this every time there is a change.
More people use Firefox than Safari, though. It's also animated in IE, Opera and Chrome.
