How do I get back to the home screen on a MacBook Air when I can't get out of an app?

Rookie user. In an app called 3D Human Anatomy and cannot get out to return to home screen.

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Welcome to the Support Communities. By now you've probably got out of the situation, but if it happens again, take a screen shot of your entire screen by holding down the Command (⌘) and Shift (⇧) keys and pressing a 3. Then post it here by clicking on the Camera icon:

I have no idea what the application is. Try hitting the escape key. Try bringing your cursor up to the top of the screen and see if a menu appears to minimize. Try force quiting (option + command + esc). If you are still stuck, hold the power button down for 10 seconds to force the machine to shutdown.
