trying to work with a clip recorded original on adobe premiere, and I noticed some coloful vertical lines appearing from time to time. Are these dropped frames and could this appear in the final rendering. The audio is ok though. Can anything be done so the lines don't show in the final movie?

You may wish to check in the Adobe and FCP forums since iDVD isn't built to fix problems from the video editing process. In iMovie, when the video became visually corrupted, I'd quit without saving and restart. I'd say the solution will be back in the video editing part of the workflow.
