Pictures are cruelly rendered since last Digital Camera RAW Converter update (Nikon D600)

since the last RAW converter update all my RAW pictures are displayed like wrong colored 4bit-images!

It's wether if I use Preview, Aperture or any other application that makes use of Apple RAW converter.

This is the way it looks like (left). The big image (right) is the original from the Nikon ViewNX2 to show, that tha RAW-file is right itself.

I have now allowed the Camera RAW update to 4.08 to take place in one of my systems (rMBP w 10.8.4). I have subsequently tested RAW image files shot with various Nikon cameras (D800, D600, D700, D300 and D200). In no case did any behavior of the sort that has been reported for 4.08 take place. All seemed as it should be. I have done this not only in 10.8.4 and Aperture 3.4.5, but also on another system running 10.7.5 and Aperture 3.4.5.

In my case no Nikon NEF files have been imported other than directly from the memory card taken from the camera -- no intervening proprietary Nikon software, Adobe, or other.

I worry that if this is to be properly dealt with by Apple, then these reports and feedback must explicitly describe any and all deviations from simple, direct, download into Aperture in how these impacted NEFs were taken into Aperture, if any.

While my rMBP graphics would presumedly be the latest, my 2006 Mac Pro (which unfortunately for me cannot run Mt. Lion) is not that uptodate in its Graphics card.

Have you personally experienced the behavior with a NEF file directly imported?

My efforts have been toward clarifying for some that do not use Nikon equipment, btw, who are trying to help in these discussions.

I have read in a foreign post that they used the same Nikon RAW (nef) directly into Aperture on two differend machines. one was red, the other was OK. Myself I have not had any trouble( I have Canon) but concluded from various descriptions that there is a problem with 4.08 and Nikon, but only on some machines - hence the graphic card for me is a prime suspect.

This probel occured ONLY after installing RAW update 4.08. And for me it ocurrd on two machines, a late 2012 MacBookPro and a 2006 iMac.

This is a file compatibility issue, not a hardware issue.

The description of Update 4.08 reads:

This update adds RAW image compatibility for the following cameras to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11:

Canon EOS 70D

Fujifilm X-M1

Leica M

Leica M Monochrom

Nikon COOLPIX P330

Pentax 645D

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II

However something in the update inadvertantly removed compatibilty for Nikon D7000 and several other Nikon RAW/NEF files processed through the Nikon Transfer Applcation.

Maybe its just one specific grahic card. The guy i talked to had a mini.

If you suspect the graphics card it might be worth it to try the raw conversion in safe boot mode (Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?)

That will disable advanced features of the Graphics Card and non-standard kernel extensions. Aperture will not run in Safe mode, but iPhoto will. This way we could see, if the red bug in the latest raw release is triggered by non-standard system extensionsor avanced features of the graphics card.
