I am new to Macs. Just bought iMac and my son a MacBook Air over the weekend. We are going through the adjustment of switching from PCs. We attempted to download an audiobook and it downloaded as a zip file. We cannot figure out how to open the zip file. When we double click on the file it just creates another separate file. Is Zipeg a good app for opening zip fiels or is there another one out there that is better?

What is the file extent (.xxx) of the second file that's created?
It could be the audio book vendor is doing something out of the ordinary with their files. I can open any .zip file on any of our Macs running 10.4.through 10.8 without problem.
Or it might be a folder containing the file?

You don't need a third-party application to open ZIP files, with rare exceptions. The built-in Archive Utility does it.

While a typical .zip file shouldn't do that - some other compressed formats will, .7z for example.
