I have no idea what animal operating system I am running. The only thing I know is it is Mac OS X 10.5.8. How or what animal can I update my operating system to?

10.8.5 is Leopard. Let us know your computer specs (go up to Apple Symbol in top left corner or menu. Open 'About This Mac' then 'More Info' and cut and past your Hardware specs.

Just to avoid possible confusion from a typo, 10.5.8 is Leopard. 10.8.5, if it ever appears, would be Mountain Lion.
