Q: I keep trying getting an error every time for my password

I know exactly what my password is and everytime I try to login to my account it rejects my password.  Once it finally lets me in I try to switch my password or remove the login so it logs me in automatically it keeps rejecting my password.  What should I do?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Logging in automatically does not require a password.

 

System Preferences/Accounts/unlock the padlock/Login Options.  Lock the padlock when done.

 

To change your password - Solution may be found if you search in the "More Like This" section over in the right column.

 

 

Use Software Update to update your os and anything else that needs to be updated.  Your system profile confirms you are still using 10.6.7. instead of 10.6.8.

    Yeah I know, once it finally accepted my password on my login screen, I was able to switch it to just automatically sign me in to my user account, but it still wont let me switch my old password to a new one.  I keep checking if everything is updated and I have no updates.  Its frustrating because it accepts my password sometimes, and other times it doesn't.

    Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.

     

    Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.

    Select your language.

    Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.

    Select Disk Utility.

     

    Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.

    Click Repair Disk.

    Restart your computer when done.

     

    Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer.

     

    but it still wont let me switch my old password to a new one.

    Changing or resetting an account password

     

     

    I keep checking if everything is updated and I have no updates.

    hey, I'm having the same problem as you are. So, what I what to know is if I use the install disc to change my password all my pictures and documents will be gone or everything will still be there after all ? (sorry, my english is not that good)
