How to stop my homepage going to yahoo search?

My System: Macbook Pro, Mountain Lion 10.7.5

I recently had a hard disc drive failure and had to reinstall all my documents and applications etc. I reinstalled utorrent without really reading the T & C (my mistake) and since then my browsers have been going to yahoo search when I open them up (specifically chrome and safari). I've been into Chrome extensions and found a search.me extension which I deleted. However yahoo still appears when I start up Chrome. I have changed the preferences but when I quit Chrome and reopen it, yahoo appears again! This is really annoying. Does anyone have any ideas of how to get rid of it? Most of the advice I've seen relates to Windows machines.

Are there any recommended anti-spybot/malware applications for Macs?

Many thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

For Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the General tab. You can reset your homepage from there.

For Chrome, try emptying the cache. Click the Chrome menu (three horizontal lines) top right side of the Chrome window. From the drop down menu click Tools > Clear Browsing Data

Now try resetting the Chrome homepage.

As for malware. According to your profile your Mac has v10.7.5 installed so make sure Gatekeeper is enabled to prevent malware.

Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. Select: Mac App Store and Indentified developers

If that area is grayed out, click the lock icon to proceed. That will prevent malware on your Mac.

All hard drives eventually fail at some point and some last longer than others.

Your Chrome solution did not work for me, but I did find a solution that might be helpful.

Open Chrome then select Chrome > preferences- this will open settings. Look for heading : On startup select open a specific page or set of pages > select Set pages. a box will open. Hover over the Yahoo box or boxes and click the X to delete these items. Enter Google.com or ca or whatever you like in the URL box and select okay. This worked for me, hope it helps.
