I seem to remember having a transition in iMovie and I cannot remember the name of it (getting old). Basically, it looked like a split-screen transition, going from one clip to the next. I have looked at the list of transitions on the preview pane and it is not there. Perhaps it is an effect, I am not sure.
Can someone help me please? 😉

You must describe much more.
Does it look like a window-sweeper (car)
or like a clock pointer rotating
or as next clip slides in from one of the sides
or as a new clip starts as a small rectangle growing into full size
or. or. or ?
Can it be from iMovie 1 to HD6 ?
If so - they took Plug-ins - so it can be from a third-part deliverer.

I know all the transitions available in iMovie11 and it isn't one of those.
The transistion OR effect starts with clip 1, clip 2 slides in from the right, boxed now BOTH are in frame.
Then, clip 1 moves out and clip 2 is full frame.
I can tell you that I originally owned iMovie 08 and upgraded to '11

Transition is called SWAP
iMovie11 ....
Thanks Karsten but no that wasn't it.
I like the Swap and it is similar.
Instead of one clip shrinking to the left and the other getting larger
coming in from the right, it's more like a slide action coming in from the right.

there IS actually a transition called SLIDE LEFT ...

I think I may have found my answer, on a different website....
iMovie 09 introduced a Picture in Picture edit that lets you play two clips at once, with one appearing in a small box in the corner of the screen. iMovie'11 takes that same idea and adds a side-by-side that splits the screen vertically. Drag a clip onto top of another clip and then select Side by Side from the action menu that appears. In the clip inspector, you can choose whether the added clip appears on the left or the right side of the screen and whether the clip slides into frame from the side.
I have a problem finding a transition in iMovie.
