Connecting MacBook Air to HP Printer?

I have an HP Deskjet 2510 printer plugged into a desktop computer running Windows Vista. I have been trying to connect my MacBook to the printer using the Print & Scan section in system preferences. The printer is now showing up but when I go to print something, a box pops up asking for a name and password for the printer. I'm also given the option to connect as a registered user, or using my apple ID.

Connecting using my apple ID does nothing, and when I enter a username/password as a registered user, a new box shows up showing my pending document and underneath says "Hold for Authentication"

I'm not sure what username/password I am supposed to be entering? (I've tried the username/password for my account on my macbook and PC)

My other laptop (running Windows 7) is connecting and printing so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Hi there mernalmonster!

I have a couple of articles that can help you troubleshoot this issue with printing from your MacBook Air. First, make sure you have set up the printer properly by taking a look at the steps in the following article:

Mac Basics: Printing in OS X Mountain Lion & OS X Lion

You may want to take special note of this line in the instructions as well:

Tip: If you want a Windows PC to use a Mac printer share to print, install Bonjour Print Services for Windows.

If you are still experiencing issues after double-checking your settings in the previous article, then you may need to reference this article about troubleshooting printing issues:
