Cursor jump from Safari to Yahoo browser while typing

It's definitely JavaScript causing the cursor to jump. If you disable it in the preferences section, the cursor doesn't jump. However, I'm not sure what functionality will be lost either. Without JavaScript enabled, I was unable to post my reply here.

Whether I use "http" or "https" makes no difference on this MacBook Pro Retina (lTE 2013) running OS 10.9.4.

Actually, there's no reason why that should work for anyone and I suspect that you've also changed something else.

This was driving me crazy. I'm not sure if this is an option in all homepages. I use igHome and simply removed the search field. I don't really need it since I use the address bar / search field in Safari. Problem solved.

Another solution: Install and activate Adblock. Browse to the offending web page. Right click on the search box and select "Block this ad". The search box will disappear and the cursor focus will not be changed when the web page is loading, otherwise the web page will work as usual except that you can't use the web page search box of course. This solution is from another site.

I am one of the many with this issue. As I type a search in safari, upon the third letter being typed, my cursor jumps down to the Yahoo cursor. Annoying as all heck! Of course if I don't have the Yahoo page open and I'm searching with another page open, no problems! I'm seeing no solutions. Anyone find the answer yet?

I don't think there is a real solution to this annoying problem. One way of dealing with it is hit the ESC key before you type in URL. This will stop the page from loading and interrupting you while you're typing mid sentence.

This was driving me nuts - I'm so glad I found this thread.

The only thing that works for me is setting my home page to a blank page. That way nothing can steal the cursor!

I used google before, so it's not like much has changed, I still get to search using google, I just don't see their logo anymore...

This problem has been bugging me for sooooo long! I swear I remember seeing an option somewhere once that said, "Automatically move cursor to search box" but for the life of me can't find that option anywhere. Maybe it was when I used to used Mozilla, I know just stick to Safari as I find it fast enough.

My solution, setting blank.org as my home page. It's quicker and doesn't steal my cursor. Seeings as my browser search bar searches google anyway, it doesn't bother me not having my home page as google. (Same would go if I had yahoo set instead)

Now it looks like it reverted back after I refreshed the browser. Any other suggestions?

Unfortunately, it's how their website is coded. Currently the only way to stop this from happening is to disable JS... which also buggers up most of your web functionality (like replying to this thread, for instance).

I wish there was a way to disable just the cursor jump command.

Monsieur digicub, thank you. I am happy to forego seeing Google's logo, as the whole point of this was to be able to open a new tab (Command + T) hit Tab (sending the cursor straight to the address bar) and be able to continue typing my search query, without being thrown out midway 🙂

As James Logan previously suggested the way to do this is with adblock--the confusing thing for me at first was that this will work with adblock from "beta fish" but not with Adblock plus. Right click the yahoo search box and then click block this ad--will get rid of search box and therefore the annoying cursor switch
