So, I use a splitter to record audio coming from my xbox. it's supposed to go into the microphone jack, but my computer does not have one. So i plugged it into the headphone jack. The macbook pro detected it as a headphone device, and was outputting sound through it. How can i get it to behave like a microphone?

I'd looked at this before, but this doesn't help. I don't get the drop down menu. Ifi it helps i am on version 10.8.3

On a 2012 MBP audio input must be done via USB. You will need to get a compatible cable.
