Q: Ipad 3 smart cover magnets no longer sticking

Smart cover is about 3 months old and lately the magnets have lost their oomph.... If i turn the device face down, the folding cover just flops open.

Is there a fix, besides replace?

iPad, iOS 5.0.1

Actually looking at the store, i see i am asking for help w the ipad "smart case" (not smart cover).

This is the polyurethane outside, suede-like inside, envelopes the back of ipad and folds over the front.

Anyway, as above, magnets are not holding any more.

    Any solutions?

Sounds like it's worn, might not be covered under the warranty but I would make an appointment at the genius bar for them to replace it.

I have the iPad Smart Case you are talking about and even when it was brand new, the magnets in the screen cover section never held the cover onto the screen when held upside-down. If yours held it in place in the past, you may have been lucky that it did so...I've read quite a bit of reviews (at Amazon and the Apple Store) and it seems that one common complaint is that the front cover does not stay closed magnetically when turned upside-down.

EDIT: I don't believe that the magnets embedded within the Smart Case cover were even meant to hold the cover closed, especially when held upside-down...seems the magnets are primarily meant to:

    1. Trigger the iPad to enter/exit Auto-Lock mode when closed/opened (if enabled on the iPad)

    2. Stick to themselves to hold the cover in the numerous folded postitions

Like I said previously, if they held the cover closed for you in the past, you were lucky that they did so.
