Optical Audio Output Problem

Hi all,

The setup I have is as follows:

[iMac 2011 Model specs below] -- Optical Cable --> [Digital Surround Sound Decoder] -- RCA cables --> [5.1 Logitech Surround System]

When I set it up as above, the iMac seems unable to send any sound down the optical cable. The volume greys out as expected, however I am unable to select anything other than a Stereo setup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Long shot, but...

Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

BDAqua,

One of the problems I'm having here (and I think probably the reason I'm not getting any sound out) is that it's only giving me 2 channel options. I've attached a screenshot if that helps.

Sound Fllower has been a frequent problem, I'd try uninstalling it & rebooting..

Hi again,

I uninstalled as you suggested and the problem remains. There's no 5.1 option in either that window, or under "Configure Speakers" (they're there, but greyed out and I can't select them).

What happens if you choose Encoced Digital Audio in that pic above?

It simply gives up. The sound output disappears!

If I right click and "Use this device for sound output" then it switches back to 2ch-24bit integer.
