I began using Migration assistant to transfer from my PC to my Mac but it does not let me continue past selecting items to migrate

I began using the migration assistant. It downloaded fine on my PC, and I was able to follow the steps on the apple website, but it will not let me continue past selecting which items to migrate on my Mac. However, if I try to exit out of the window it says migration in progress do not close. There is not a bar to measure the progress of the migration on either the PC or Mac like the instructions say there will be.
