Mass import AIF files and convert to MP3

Many years ago, I imported my CD collection into iTunes as AIF files. My music folder resides on a portable hard drive connected to my Windows PC. The folder size is about 232Gb. I would like to reduce the size of the folder dramatically by importing the AIF files/folders into an empty iTunes on a different PC while converting the AIFs to MP3s. Is this possible? I know that there is a manual file by file process but anyone have any additional suggestions? Any 3rd party software that could accomplish this? Thanks.

Open the empty iTunes library.

iTunes prefs > General.

Click the Import settings and set to what you want.

Then hold Shift (Windows or Option (Mac) iTunes menu File > Create new version - Convert {whatever is in Import settings].

This will add and convert in one step. Only the MP3 files will be in new library. Originals will remain untouched.

If you are doing a lot of files (all 2323 GB) at once, it will take a long time.

If you don't mind letting it run, fine.

Else, don't add everything at once. Keep track of where you are.
