I got an IPhone 5 upgrade on my contract from vodaphone UK and i have to get it unlocked. How long dose it take to unlock and is there any way i can get it unlocked faster?

I have requested the unlock through Vodaphone already and waiting on an e-mail to say it worked.
Only the carrier the device is locked to can authorize the unlock. Contact Vodafone about the unlock if that is who it is locked to.
Only Vodaphone can unlock it. The length of time is up to them.
If it is currently locked due to a contract with a carrier, then you need to solve that contract. You first tactic should be to contact the carrier. They are the ones with whom you have an agreement.
No way to rush it. We are users like you, and all Apple does with the unlock request is add it to their unlocked list. The time factor comes from the carrier.

unlocking is their "gift" not your right
I have contacted them several times to ask them to get it unlocked they should have had it ready and sorted by the time i got the phone. DO you think ringing them and asking them to hurry up with the unlock will work because i am not paying for my new contract when i don't have use for my new phone its ridiculous.
You can try it, but I doubt that it will help. As the others have pointed out, Vodaphone has no incentive to help you use your iPhone with some other carrier, so it's unlikely that they can be rushed. Most people report that when Vodaphone says it can take up to 30 days from the time you request an unlock to the time they process it, they're not exaggerating.

That's like asking your soon-to-be ex-wife to hurry up with the divorce paperwork so you can get married to your new girlfriend. She's not going to be in any rush to accomodate you.

i am not requesting an unlock from vodaphone i want to stay with them. But they need to unlock the phone to them.
Which cell carrier it the phone locked with then?
If you purchased the phone from Vodafone, they do not need to unlock it to them. It should work with their SIM no matter what. What your asking now does not make sense.

Ate you saying you are waiting for the iPhone 5 as an upgrade and they have agreed to unlock this iPhone 5 before you actually start using it on their network ???
I'm also confused. If the iPhone is locked to Vodaphone and you do not intend to use it with another carrier, why do you thnk you need to get it unlocked? Unlocking is so you can use the iPhone with a different carrier.
i got the phone from them and they do neet to unlock it. they said they will unlock but it will take a while. I have not idea why the phone is not working with vodaphone and when i rang up and let them see the phone through i chones they said they need to unlock it.
