Volume buttons changing my screen instead of volume?

I HAD THAT PROBLEM TOO AND I JUST SOLVED IT,

System preferences > Keyboard > unselect "Use all F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys"

maybe you accidentally selected that preference.....I did

if you ever have this problem,

1. turn your computer off completely

2. press power button to turn on then immediately press following buttons: (command,option, p, r) at the same time BEFORE YOU HEAR THE START UP SOUND. (it will not work if you press the buttons during or after the start up sound)

3. The screen should shut off then start up again (keep holding buttons)

4. Once you hear the start up sound again, stop pressing the buttons.

Your function buttons should work again and go back to normal 🙂 ps. (this will not delete or wipe out your computer at all)

Check Hot Corners in System Preferrences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Hot Corners

If you haven't setup any hot corners, FYI, you have 14 days from the date you received your Mac for an exchange or return.

If you want to keep the functionality of the F1 keys, just press the function key (fn) while using the volume keys.

When I press the down volume button, the app/ safari page I have open slide up so I can only see the bottom edge of it at the top of my screen, and a grey translucent border about a half an cm thick pops up around my entire screen.

Your new Mac should not have these kind of problems. As I mentioned previously, you have 14 days from the date you received your Mac for an exchange or refund.

Select the Screen Saver tab then click Hot Corners

You may have activated screen corners.
