I have six 'wireless clients' on my AirPort Extreme. The first five are identified by name, i.e. GJ's iphone, GJ's Mac Mini, etc. However, my new iPad does not show a name but just the IP Address of 10.0.1.5. My new iPad does have a name but for some reason does not show up. What should I try.

The "name" you are referring to is called the DHCP Client ID. It is an option to help identify a network device by name instead of just an IP address.
For the iPad, you can set the Client ID via Settings > Wi-Fi > Choose your network > DHCP tab > Client ID
Note: This is the same location as on the iPhone or any other iOS device.
I found the DHCP Client ID location and named my iPad - all seemed fine, but I still do not get the named id on the airport list of clients, just the IP address. My other network items, i.e. Mac Mini, DJ's ipad, DJ's phone, etc. etc. are all named correctly - only my new iPad's name does not appear. Any other suggestions?

Unfortunately, the Client ID display does not always work correctly on all devices.
Soon, you may notice that other items that were previously displayed with the Client ID may now display just as an IP address......and your new iPad may "switch" from the previous IP address display to the Client ID display.
Then, things may change around again in a week or two. It's a bug that hopefully Apple will fix on the next firmware update.
Thanks - this totally answered my questions - I will now relax and accept the fact that I have done things correctly, but there are problems with the software that I cannot do anything about.
P.S. I have already noticed that the IP address changes.
