Transfering data from a PC to a Macbook

I have had a pc for 13 years. I have lots of files and folders in my current 5 year old Dell as well as an external hard drive that I want to be able to access and use if and when I switch over to a Mac Book.

I want the ease of use better security and better reliability that Mac offers over the constant upgrades and security issues I have been facing with my PC.

So, will I be able to access and use my excel spreadsheets and Word Documents on a MacBook?

You can buy a copy of MS Office for Mac 2011. It will open all PC created Office files. All files created in office for mac can be opened on pc office programs. you can also purchase iWork. It's Apples version of office. It can open and work on office files but some of the formatting may be lossed.
