Im pretty sure my mid 2010 imac had the original memory closest to the back of the machine (bottom) and I installed new ram in the slots closest to the screen (top). This is opposite to what the instructions say on the apple website?

It doesn't mind. All slots support the same memory and you won't have any problem by putting the new RAM at the top
Thanks. I suppose though that the Apple instructions on how to put your RAM in are the wrong way around?
Apple might have installed the RAM modules in a different way than the one Apple said. Anyway, you can still install RAM in the free slots
