How do I uninstall VShield as a root user?

VShield is using all of my CPU, and I know how to log in as a root user, but can't find VShield or McAfee in the directory editor to delete it. How can I delete VShield/McAfee as a whole so that I don't have to "stop process" through activity monitor everytime that I log on my computer?

open terminal. enter the command –

ps -ax

look for any processes that look like they belong to the offending programs.

The names will appear in the right columns which are file paths.

If you find promising files you can try to get rid of them yourself. Google the processes you find to make sure they aren't actually vital system files or processes if you aren't sure.

Things do not install themselves, either you or someone else with access to your Mac installed them.

It took me 30 seconds to find this: It refers to McAfee. You can use Google and search for how to uninstall the other junk just as easily as I did.

Steps to uninstall:

  1. Click Go from your Finder window.
  2. Select Applications.
  3. Double-click the McAfee Internet Security Uninstaller.
  4. Check the box beside Uninstall SiteAdvisor.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Enter your admin password and click OK.
  7. Click Finish.

I've read several discussions that say there is no direct way to uninstall it and that it must be performed through root--basically that McAfee made this a huge pain to uninstall even though I have absolutely no use for it. I'm not really sure how it got installed, and am able to login as a root user but then am having a problem finding the program to uninstall once I'm logged in as a root user which I would think would be the easier part of the uninstall.
