Q: collectionstorage WARNING

Who knows the meaning of (in System log):

TuneUpApp[29088]: collectionstorage[29092] WARNING 1436.24822306633s executing _execute

I get this message quite often and I wonder if this has anything to do with memory allocation.

The aplication TuneUp is very slow and this might be the problem.

Thanks, Hans.

Oh boy........ you can do another search, here is one result:

And, instead of cleanmymac, follow Kappy's link in this thread on how to uninstall MacKeeper:

Basically, nearly all third-party "we'll clean your Mac for you" packages fall somewhere between useless and malware. The Mac OS is quite good at caring for itself. It has built-in maintenance routines that, daily, weekly, and monthly, will do what most of the cleaning apps claim to do. Since OS 10.5.8, they wil run automatically regardless of he sleep or on/off state of the computer. If asleep, they will wake up the computer long enough to run their tasks, then let the computer go back to sleep. It the computer was off in the wee hours of the morning when these are set to run, they catch up next time you power up the computer.

The most significant issue with third-pary cleaners is that they sometimes remove a critical system file and make a mess of things. The secondary issue is that they slow your Mac.

They are primarily aimed not at long-term Mac users but at people switching from Win to Mac. Win users are so conditioned to needing third-pary maintenance/security apps that they hit the "buy" button for this stuff all too fast after moving to Mac.

Hi babowa, de-install of MacKeeper done, thanks for link to Kappa and I now see that OSX is taking care of de-installing MacKeeper .plist etc as well. BTW I found physical address of TuneUp Media... they're at TuneUp Media 2525 16th Street Suite 311 San Francisco, CA, 94103, USA. If it's close to your place... check them out and ask them what's going on ;-) Thanks for your help, much appreciated. Best regards, Hans.

    Hi babowa,

I think problems are solved. I did a restart of TuneUp 8 hrs ago, and it now appears a lot more responsive, more or less interactive while before UI-actions took that long that waiting was not the preferred idea. I might say, it's 50x faster now.

I looked at the logs and saw that during startup of TuneUp, fresh plug-ins were loaded. The thing with TuneUp is that at start it connects to the TuneUp Media server and when bugfixes are ready they will be imported. Hopefully they did the required testing, in order not to end in a mess like before.

Let's close the issue for now.

Oncemore, thanks and with best regards, Hans.

You're welcome; glad to hear it - I'd guess that at least some of your problems were caused by MacKeeper & Co.
